Displaying first aid posters on notice boards provides staff and visitors with valuable knowledge that could save a life. Many people read posters simply out of curiosity and boredom, therefore displaying lifesaving health and safety notices in areas like waiting rooms, staff rooms, toilets etc. enable these crutial messages to be read. This first aid poster covers a variety of different injuries including: severe bleeding, broken bones, burns/scalds, chemical burns, eyes, electric shocks, gassing and unconsciousness. We believe that everyone should have a basic knowledge of first aid and this poster provides such knowledge.
This poster includes a QR code which can be scanned using a smart phone or tablet, once scanned a video will be played to give further knowledge and clear first aid advice.
This poster states:
REMEMBER: Ensure your own personal safety when approaching and treating casualty. Use personal protective equipment whenever possible. Send for an ambulance as soon as you feel it is required, giving clear directions to your location. Treat casualties sitting or laying down as appropriate.
BREATHING: Lay the casualty flat on their back. Open airway by gently tilting their head back and opening the mouth. Put your ear close to the casualty's mouth looking down the body towards the chest. If you can feel/hear and see the casualty breathing normally then place them in the recovery position and monitor their condition. If the casualty is not breathing normally and you can see no signs of life dial 999 and commence CPR: 30 chest compressions. 2 breaths. Repeat this sequence until the ambulance arrives and you are requested to stop.
SEVERE BLEEDING: Use disposable medical gloves for personal protection. Firmly press a sterile dressing onto the would to control the bleeding. Elevate the injured part (unless it is broken) to reduce blood flow to the wound. Take/send the casualty to hospital.
SUSPECTED BROKEN BONES: Do not move injured part. Take/send casualty to hospital or call an ambulance.
BURNS/SCALDS: Pour cool or tepid water onto the affected area for at least 10-30 minutes. Do not apply any creams or ointments. If possible, remove any constrictive clothing or jewellery before the tissue begins to swell (Do not remove clothing stuck to the wound). Cover burn with a sterile, non fluffy dressing / material or wrap loosely with cling film. Depending on the severity of the burn, take / send casualty to the hospital.
CHEMICAL BURNS: Pour cool or tepid water onto the affected area for at least 10-30 minutes. Do not apply any creams or ointments. Cover with a sterile dressing. Take / send the casualty to hospital.
EYES: Loose foreign body in eye - wash out eye with eyewash or clean water. Chemicals in eye - wash eye continuously with eyewash or clean water for at least 10 minutes. Eye injuries - Cover both eyes with a eye pad or sterile dressing to prevent movement and take/send casualty to hospital.
ELECTRIC SHOCK: Before approaching the casualty, ensure the area is safe and the electric current has been isolated. Safely remove the casualty from the electric supply. If the casualty is not breathing perform CPR (see left under "breathing").
GASSING: Use suitable personal protective equipment. Move the casualty to where there is fresh air. If casualty is not breathing, commence CPR procedures (see left under "breathing"). Make a note of the chemical involved as this will aid the hospital when treating the casualty
